Week of May 28th:
This week we will be taking our graphic organizers and turning our ideas into a rough draft of our own fractured fairy tale.
Week of May 22nd:
We are in our second week of looking at narrative stories, specifically fractured fairy tales. We read some last week and looked at what parts are included in this type of story. This week we are moving onto writing. We started off with a group story, will move into small group writing and then into writing individual stories.
Week of April 2nd - April 13th
We are continuing to learn about making good inferences for the next few weeks.
Week of March 26ty
This week we will be focusing on "Inferring".
To infer you need to search for clues and make a guess about what is going to happen or what has happened that the author hasn't said specifically.
Week of March 19th
Journal Writing about our March Break/WWW Sentences using Noun/Adjective/Verb/Daily 5 Rotations/QAR Activities (Question Answer Relationships) We will look at questions and determine if they are ones that we need to look for the answer directly in the text or is one that we need to use our scheme (our background knowledge) to help answer. We will also be looking at answering in complete full sentences.

Daily 5 Rotations, New Word Wall Words, Sentences that include: Noun, Adjective, Verb and various noun/adjective/verb work.
Week of Feb 26 - March 2
Daily 5 rotations, Black History Read Alouds with follow up activities pertaining to each story.
Week of Feb 20 - 23
Daily 5 rotations, working on creating solid sentences using our WWW. Our sentences have to include a noun, adjective and a verb.

This week we will be continuing to look at contractions. We will also continue our focus reading comprehension passages where students will practice pulling important details from the passages and answering different questions to help improve their comprehension.
Week of Jan.15th-19th
This week we will be looking at using contractions in our writing. We will also be focusing on our reading comprehension by reading and responding to different texts.
Week of Jan.8th-12th
This week we will be focusing on Compound Words and writing about our New Year Resolutions. Near the end of the week we will begin focusing on the reading strategy of "Making Connections" which will be our reading focus for the next few weeks.
Weeks of Dec. 11th & 18th:
Our letters to Santa have been mailed to the North Pole. We hope to get a reply in the mail sometime this week. We have been working on different writing activities related to Christmas and Winter.
Week of Dec.4th
This week we will be finishing up our letters to Santa. Students will also be writing a letter to a person of their choice as a formal assessment that will be marked on proper letter format. Students will also be completing an exit card on the parts of a friendly letter.
Week of Nov. 27th
This week we are continuing with Letter Writing. We will be reading and responding to our PenPal letters and begin to write our letters to Santa.
Week of Nov.20th
This week we will be introduced to "Letter Writing". We will be writing a pen pal letter to a student in either Mrs Gauthier's or Mrs. Blais' grade 2 class. We will then respond to the letters that we receive. Our letter writing unit will take place over the next few weeks as we will also be writing letters to Troops overseas and letters to SANTA.

Week of Nov.13th
This week we will be finishing up with a Visualizing Assessment. Students will be listening to a poem called "Green Giant" and then drawing a picture based on the details provided in the poem. We will then be moving onto "Media Literacy". Students will be learning about how to create a poster for various advertisements (Books/Movies/Toys).
Week of Nov.6th
We are continuing with our reading strategy of "Visualization". We will also be working on creating "meaty" sentences using adjectives to describe our writing.
Week of Oct.30th
This week our writing focus will be on various activities to go along with some Halloween read alouds. We are also wrapping up our Recount writing. This week we will be introduced to "Visualization", one of the many different reading strategies.
Week of Oct. 23rd
In reading students will be introduced to "Fix Up Strategies" . In writing, we have been working on our Recount organizers and will now learn how to turn our organizer into a writing piece. We will be focusing on adding detail that was not included in our organizers.. Once the rough copy is finished and edited, students will then do a good copy to "publish". Please note that not all writing pieces throughout the year will be published or put into a good copy.
Week of Oct.16th
In reading we will be focusing on different strategies during our Daily 5 rotations. We will continue with our Recounts for writing this week. We will be using our photo of a family event to write a recount. We will first use a graphic organizer to organize our thoughts and then write a rough draft before publishing our good copy.
Week of Oct.9th
In reading, we are working on keeping our stamina up while reading during Daily 5. Our writing focus for the week will be on "Recounts". We will begin by retelling our Thanksgiving weekend. A recount consists of the following parts;

This week we will be completing various Thanksgiving writing activities that go along with some Thanksgiving read alouds. We will also be focusing on proper sentence structure.
Week of Sept 25th
This week, we will finish up with oral and written retells of simple stories. Students will be completing an exit card written retell of a simple story. A written retell must include the characters, setting, problem, events(x3) of the story and the solution or resolution to the problem. - Sequence of events (the details of the events in order using transition words and past tense verbs)
- Personal comment at the end about how they felt about the event.
